Our Leadership Team
The Managing Partners of Hughes Capital Management realize that managing money, running a firm, and growing a firm requires different skill sets. Rarely do people come together to launch a firm where each of the partners has expertise in each of these areas. The breadth and depth of experience of the Partners in each of these areas bring stability and significant potential for growth to the enterprise that many emerging firms do not possess.
Michelle A. Morton
Chief Executive Officer
Ms. Morton has been in the financial industry for over twenty-five years and throughout her career, she has expanded her expertise to the point that she has a deep understanding of virtually all aspects of the industry. Ms. Morton is a firm believer that you will always do "well" if you strive to do "good". In this belief, "well" represents success and "good" represents acting honorably. This guiding principal applies to all stakeholders of the endeavor, but especially to clients.
Ms. Morton began her career at a boutique firm as an institutional equity and fixed income trader servicing bank trust divisions throughout the U.S. She has held trading positions at two major international banks, one located in New York City and the other in Los Angeles and consulted. In 1994, she joined the private asset management division of a major money center bank raising $110 million in assets in her first year. Because she believed that major financial services firms were shifting their focus from caring about the needs of both prospective and current clients, to the bottom line exclusively, she launched an institutional broker dealer. As CEO of the firm, she oversaw all aspects of risk management, finance, operations, corporate branding, compliance, contract negotiation and office management. Ms. Morton held that position for fourteen years. In the new venture, she brings skill sets covering organizational management, compliance and business development.
In recognition of her leadership abilities, Ms. Morton was a finalist in the Working Woman/AT&T General Excellence category of the Working Woman Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards for 2001. Ms. Morton holds a BA in Economics from Hood College (formerly Hood College for Woman). As a member of the Board of Trustees of her Alma mater from 2001 until 2006, she served as Chairwoman of the Finance Committee and Chairwoman of the Board. Ms. Morton, an avid anglophile, has an unsubstantiated claim of being the world's foremost expert on the History of the British Monarchy and The Great War (WWI).
